Ruben Viramontes was born in the silver mining village of Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico. Both his childhood and adult years have been divided between living in Los Angeles and Mexico. After studying architecture at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Ruben worked for the Mexican Institute of Anthropology in church and monument restoration, and archeological digs, which gave him an opportunity to travel throughout the entire country and experience local artistry first-hand. Later Ruben studied jewelry making with master Mexican craftsmen near Taxco. Subsequently for many years, Ruben designed and manufactured jewelry for all the major stores in Mexico, sales were near 10,000 pieces of jewelry per month, Ruben taught a village to make the jewelry and he invented machines for the manufacturing. Ruben was published many times in Mexico Vogue Magazine. After Ruben’s children were born, he decided to return to Los Angeles. He became a Walt Disney Imagineer and spent the next 17 years designing theme parks, and themed interiors for Disney, as well as Universal Studios and Warner Brothers. There is a animated show in Medellin. Columbia designed by Ruben "The show of the Orchids" showing daily at the orchids batonical garden. The Disney Company commissioned Ruben to make hundreds of paintings and sculptures that are featured in the parks in Los Angeles, Orlando, Paris, and Tokyo. Over 2,000 of Ruben’s animal designs are integrated into the Disney Animal Kingdom Park in Florida. Likewise Ruben’s fellow Imagineers frequently commissioned him to design and fabricate jewelry for their personal use (SAMPLE CUSTOM JEWELRY, 50 works of art, a tab at the top of the front page). Ruben has also designed products for Disney and was a featured artist in the Disney Galleries in Los Angeles and Orlando and the MGM Gallery in Las Vegas. Ruben is published in two Disney Books---"Walt Disney Imagineering" and "The Making of Animal Kingdom". A friend once said, " Ruben is scary, he can design and make anything"

I will remake this ring to any size the one you see here is size 9, the skull will have variations from this one you see, some rock crystals are more opaque. This ring will be signed and dated by Ruben X. Viramontes.
NEW IDEA: is, pick a stone skull color and i will suggest matching stones! see my skull assortment sheet.
This ring weighs 2 ounces of Solid Silver. Top is 25mm by 18mm, the bottom of the ring shank is 13mm. The side width is 24mm where the Mermaid and eye are. The crystal skull is 20mm long by 14mm wide. Total 7 turquoise stones from the Sleeping Beauty Mine in Arizona. I carved a cross into the back of the crystal skull, painted it turquoise, you can see it distorted through the clear crystal.I oxidized the silver black where the skull is set, that is why it looks blackish at some angles. This ring was inspired for my love of adventure and love of Spanish and caribbean and Pirate art. Another love i have are Mermaids, this one i carved with wings so she represents ocean and air and is the guardian of travel and endevers. The eye is for knowledge and protection. This is a big ring, looks like a pirate's treasure for sure. Magical and mystifying as the cross behind the skull moves like waves in the ocean, refractive distortions and blurrs of turquoise move when you turn the ring. This skull has been blessed by this holy cross. A great piece for meditation because the cross comes and goes into infinity, plays with the space inside the skull.Underside of the ring is like the inner belly of a pirates' ship, the ribbed structure alows the finger to breath but also looks nautical. Solid heavy sterling .925 silver ring.
The "Demon Comet" streaks across the universe leaving a trail of stars and lands on your finger! The skull is 7/8 inch by 3/4 inch. The ring shank is wide at 1/2 inch at its smallest width. It has the feel of a wide band ring. It is elegant, executive look to it. The ring is 30 grams Sterling Silver Solid. The Lab Grown Rubies AAA quality for extreme color radiance you will not believe are 5mm round set deep into the eyes, no glue, set in a professional manner as metal is pushed by hand to secure the stones. Stones are cut from premium rough selected to best imitate the highest end Burma material. A deep rich red with flashes of hot fuscia. These gems have essentially the same optical, physical and chemical properties as natural Ruby. Many other stone colors also available. The stars are set onto deep protrusions you will not see on any other ring, they are popping out like a star burst. This ring looks and feels and screams volume because of the supper deep carving. There is a whole galaxy around the lower part of the shank. This ring shouts, universe, astrology, star formations, big bang and more. It is intense! The horns have the base carved to show growth from the skull. The teeth are individually carved and separated. The mouth is open to catch a breath of cosmos. Become one with the Universe, great to take off and roll it around in your hand and touch. Each ring is designed, hand made, signed and dated by Ruben Xolotol Viramontes. Solid heavy sterling .925 silver ring.
"Night and Day" cuff bracelet i make it without the leather now. 5 oz. Sterling Silver! The nose ring is also Silver. Sight and sound! This bracelet embraces the arc which we see the sun move across the sky. at one extreme is the sun at the other is the moon. All in between is life and death. In the middle is "The great love letters skull" The nose ring actually rings a tone every time you move your wrist. The nose ring makes clinking sounds, The tone of incantation, the siren, the sound of life surrounds this bracelet. This bracelet has a lucky seven skull and four leafed flower. The rose on the side is for "love kills" and pricks at our side. There is a giant multi star universe engraved all over. And a bright sunny smile on the sun. This is to become a real collector's prize. It wieghs 5 ounces of pure solid Sterling Silver. The three major icons are the luky 7 seven skull, the Great skull, the owl, these are all made of solid bronze in golden color. I need your measurement of your wrist. I will size it and shape it to your wrist, hopefully any size. Email me your size to see if it can be available in your size. I want to be sure it fits well. Please measure the width and thickness of your wrist. This one you see is 7 1/4 inches all around including the gap, this one fits me, my wrist is 1 1/2" x 2" this is medium. All wrists have a different shape so contact me with the measurements. The silver is thick so it is really hard to bend, i have to hammer it against a form to shape it, it is not bendable by hand, you can not squeeze it, it is too strong and thick. You can also have it with or without the leather for same price. The leather means you should be more carefull of getting it wet. The dampness cold be uncomfortable. But haveing the leather does add to comfort and fit when dry. Let me put it another way, listen up. This bracelet is very very stiff and hard to bend i usually need to have some wrist measurements first to make it. Yes it can be shaped over a baseball bat with a body shop rubber mallet. I usually make a wood form that is a copy of the wrist measurements to be sure of a good fit. I need wrist width ( to know how wide to make it) and thickness (to know how big a gap for sliding the wrist into it) and circumference (all around distance). So , can you get all these measurements and still keep it a surprise. or measure a cuff bracelete he already has and measure it. Most designers make a cuff bracelet that is light and flimsy that you can squeeze and bend to shape, but not this one. Designed, hand made, Hand signed and dated by Ruben Xolotol Viramontes.
This pendant is the spirit of Frida, frozen into silver and Mother of Pearl, in the spirit of my culture. July 6 is her birthday, celebrate with this necklace pendant. The Mother of Pearl carving is well protected by the raised silver areas around it. Here I wish to show a great oneness with nature and culture. The skull with flowers in the eyes sees love all around but blinded by beauty. The big nostrils are wide open to remind us to take a breath of prana. This ring screams love not war. The stones are lab created in Switzerland, Star Sapphire, and lab created Burmese Ruby (The stones are identical chemical composition and hardness and light refraction, to the natural) and conflict free. The stones represent planets that we all live with and the same ones Frida saw. On the sides are flowers, she loved to wear in her hair to celebrate life and shower us all with love. This pendant is a real celebration of life and death. There is also a rose on the baile where you insert the chain, this is the great Diego Rivera. The Mother of Pearl Skull carved by Ruben measures 1 1/8" tall and 3/4" wide. 45 grams of solid Sterling silver. The Skull frame is 1 1/2 inches long by 1 1/4 inches wide, this is BIG. Look at photos of Frida, she wore this type of big and fine jewelry, she wore many of them at once. I always love seeing pictures of Frida with her braids gathered on top of her head in an old Tehuana style from Mexico. I remember my Grandmother's braids that way sometimes. Each pendant is designed, hand made, and personally signed and dated by Ruben Xolotol Viramontes. I will carve a new skull for each order, little changes may occur, they are one of a kind carvings, also material color may vary a little. If you want different stones please let me know.
